aBOUT q mUSIC

 

Q Music Australia as formed in 1994 by Chris Mortimer and Martyn Cook.

 

Martyn and Chris began playing together in an originals group called "Hot, Not Bothered" in 1992 and have been working closely since. In recent years, Q Music has expanded to include several other acts, covering many different styles including themed acts.

 

Q Music as a duo consists of Chris and Martyn. Chris plays keyboard and sings, and Martyn plays flute, saxophone and occasionally additional percussion. They can perform in acoustic mode or with backing tracks. Repertoire is wide ranging. The pair cover vocal and instrumental Jazz, easy listening/ lounge and chill out, rock, dance and retro party music. Samples are listed below.

 

As a trio, Q may include a percussionist - either Matt Chilmaid, Robin Haider or Lee Gray; a guitarist - Bob Jones; or female vocalist - Anita Hartmann. As a four piece, the duo is expanded to include two other players mentioned above depending on the requirements of the client.

 

Q have performed across Sydney at venues including The Orient Hotel at The Rocks, Coogee Bay Hotel, Swiss Grande at Bondi, Star City Casino, Novotel Brighton Beach (resident band '98-01), ANA Hotel, All Seasons Premer Menzies Hotel (resident band throughout '97), Sydney Hilton, Rosehill and Canterbury Racecources - centre stage and at functions within, a multitude of clubs and pubs; harbour cruise boats including Matilda, Rocks Rhythmboat, Vagabond and  Island Club Corporate Cruises. They have performed for corporations including Qantas, Optus, Retravision, Mercedes Benz/ Daimler Chrysler, Ford, Coca Cola Amatil, Tooheys and Ray White Real Estate. Q frequently appear at weddings, corporate product launches, Christmas parties (Nov/ Dec) and private engagements.

 

Q Trio performed during Sydney 2000 games at Central Railway Station playing to estimated crowds of 80,000 people who passed by to board trains each day to Stadium Australia - filmed by CNN and all major local channels.

 

The same trio performed at the Tabcorp millenium New Year's Eve celebration at Star City poolside in a fun filled evening or fireworks and dancing on December 31st, 1999.
